You could easily be fooled into thinking that creativity is a skill that is only valuable to those working in the design industry, artist types and possibly architects and engineers. However, creative thinking can provide benefits to all professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason that creative thinking is in demand across workforces is that every\u00a0business has a current problem to overcome or a process to improve. No matter\u00a0what the industry or sector, creative thinking is the turnkey solution to real\u00a0business problems, regardless of the business\u2019s industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Art Develops Creative Thinking<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Art has been argued to be a vehicle for developing creative thinking. When\u00a0people \u2018get creative\u2019 by both analysing and creating artistic works, whether it be\u00a0painting, sculpting or something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This has been argued extensively by Harvard professor,David Perkins. He\u00a0suggests that looking at and making art causes us to enhance what he names\u00a0\u2018thinking dispositions\u2019 and improve creative thinking. The reason art is so good at\u00a0this is because individuals can look at the art at the same time as thinking about\u00a0it or questioning it. Moreover, art is engaging to most people and encourages us\u00a0to make connections between things in the art and the real world, i.e. think
outside of the canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, art does not just develop creative thinking within the art world. Professor\u00a0Perkins has also argued \u2013 quite successfully \u2013 that the creative thinking skills\u00a0developed with art crossover into other areas of personal and professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
